Vlog - Pronunciation Meme Thingy

I got this idea from jess over at not your average joan of archetypal patterns, who was inspired by
this particular post, here by the Tsaritsa. She was inspired by two other bloggers, ( Harley and Lor ).

The real challenge to my feeble mind, is figuring out how to pronounce "Tsaritsa". This is my Canadian TWANG on things.

Here's my vlog response to these fab ladies. It will take 5:20 of your life, so strap in, or let it play while you surf for porn in another window. It's really up to you.

;-)

The list of words:

The Questions

- What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

- What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?

- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

- What do you call gym shoes?

- What do you say to address a group of people?

- What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

- What do you call your grandparents?

- What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

- What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

- What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

I hope some of you will do this, too, for fun! It would be neat to hear.

Please post your direct link in the comments below (or just make fun of me, again, up to you).

  5. No way! I say Sall-mon too!

OK, not really. I wish I could VLOG this, but my blog is video challenged, cause I'm cheap, and don't want to pay Wordpress extra for it.

I pronounce just about (aboot?)everything the same way you do. 'Course, I grew up about 20 miles away from Ontario, so it's not a big surprise. I have since learned to say "R-OW-T" instead of ROOT. People were looking at me funny out here in the Midwest.

    Such fun hearing the accents

  8. @bruce - AWESOME MAN! Thanks for typing it out. Who knew you could be more amusing that way! Thanks! Why bummed with BF? He almost always lets me pick, unless some important tennis match is on. ;-)

@Tom G. - R-OW-T. lol. We were practically neighbours, a few years apart. Ish. lol. Wordpress won't let you embed a Youtube video? You can be damn sure I didn't pay anything to post this. Do YOU NOT KNOW ME AND MY THRIFTY WAYS?!?!? ;-)

@Mynx - Please, please, please do so! I would love it!! As I am sure others would. I adore Australian accents! Please post your link here, if you do it!!! I need to calm down with the exclamation marks!!!!!!

  10. @The Empress - We were almost identical on this one, save gym shoes, and my uber-favourite, "hey dudes, what the f*ck is up?" hehehe. Thanks for playing along!

@bruce - Ahhh, gotcha. Sad to hear you are feeling so unwell, my friend. Also got your email (would be happy to - just need to shift mental gears to figure out perspective). I hope you are feeling better, man. And that your computer issues sort themselves out.

You can get new laptops for relatively cheap if you don't use Microsoft Office (that part costs nearly as much as the damn 'puter). Use OpenOffice.org (totally free!).

Or buy a net book and get an external hard drive on a sweet sale!

Feel better. Hug the Tuckmonster for me!

  15. Just wanted to let you know I just started reading your blog and I love it already! Hope you have a great day, and lastly I LOVE your quotes section. Those are some of my favorite quotes as well! Anyway Thanks for the good reading! JEREMY (AKA: Gay Sailor)

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Storm. Kat Storm. - First off, awesome to see your vlog... I hadn't caught any of yours before! And including the typical accent reference videos was really neat!

    Kat’s accent-less version is here!

@Jeremy (AKA: Gay Sailor) - Why thank ye, sir! Welcome to the blog and thanks for checking out my quotes section. I think you are the ONLY person who has!

Also, do you prefer Jeremy or Gay Sailor? Thanks for commenting and the compliments! Flattery will get you everywhere and then some. Ha!

  17. this was adorable. And you totally need to start saying Hey Bitches...

    :)

  18. What a great post, Stephanie. I was sitting here, facing a pile of homework, saying, "I shall not blog. I must not blog. No, no, NO...

    "Oh? Hmm? What this video?"

You hooked me. Charming. What a fun idea. I have never tried vlogging though, and I am totally scared to even try.

Anyhow, I have some odd pronunciations compared to other Californians; like, I say ROOT, and people look at me funny. "Do you mean ROWT?" For some reason this word in particular triggers a need to "correct."

I always say Data like the Data on Star Trek.

Here is your other list, in order.

    •TP
•Pill Bug, sometimes Sow Bug, for the bigger kind
    •Soda
•I have a lot of athletic type shoes, and they all have unique roles and names, but I do not own a pair of tennis shoes at the moment. I don't think I have ever said, "gym shoes." (Weird quirk, I am thinking, now.)
•What do you say to address a group of people? Totally depends on the group, but often, "Hello, All" (not "everyone")
    •Daddy Long Legs
•Grandma, Grandpa, but the Great Grandmothers had special titles like "Grandma Mom, Moo Moo, and Nonny." Interesting, huh?
•Cart, sometimes "grocery cart" if the context is not clear.
•"Look, it's raining and the sun is shining. Let's look for rainbows!"
•The "off switch." Shotguns work well too, but city ordinances are touchy about that... Actually. "Remote"

    Cheers, Rick

  19. I heard your mention of a bunch of remotes downstairs and suggest you look into getting a "Harmony Remote" I have them and they are amazing.. you can press one button and it configures everything for tv, dvd, Stereo, wahtever you are doing.

  20. Thank you for visiting my blog and letting me know this was here! Watching these accent vlogs can be a little addicting :)

Also, I love when you said "about." I know it wasn't even on the list of things to say but it was so Canadian. ;)

  21. WOW!

Who would have guessed that made such pretty Canadians?

I thought they were all butch and missing teeth from hockey pucks.

    Very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Love this! Hmmm, I may have to try this, except maybe with a cartoon or something. Ya don't wanna see my mug. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yup. We pronounce everything the same! I loved your vlog. Loved seeing you. Laughed when you said: saLmon!
And yes, come to Winnipeg (not now, it's fricken cold out!) and we will definitely do coffee or something! It'll be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  24. @EVERYONE - shit you guys, I leave and do real world stuff and miss out on all this banter. Y'all probably won't come back now to see my responses!

@jerrod - Anyone who considers me adorable gains my immediate love. Just thought I should let you know. Also? Will try to implement "Hey Bitches" by trial.

@Rick - LOVE Moo Moo and shotgun! And ANY opportunity I can provide to delay homework is a helping hand. Thanks for sharing your answers! You should do as Mynx did, and use a "dummy" image with your voice (dog, cat, cartoon, etc.)

@V-Tom - Meh... we are lazy/complacent. Means I am more likely to blog and less likely to watch TV with all those remotes. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Lorraine - Thank you for stopping by my neck of the woods! I hope to read more of your posts and find out more about you! As I said, you seem like such a joyful person!

@Ed - You can thank BettyBo and Elmo for the genetics... and thanks. I did avoid all sports, including hockey pucks, hence my (relatively) full set of teeth and cabinet of "participant" awards/ribbons. -) Thanks for commenting!

@On My Soapbox - I would actually LOVE to see your mug, but would settle with a cartoon dog, if that is what you feel comfy with. Post the link here if you do it!!

@Sandra - I would so totally be down with coffee. You crack me up. I will be there before year's end for sure. Will hunt you down. Or ask you politely via the interwebs. lol.

  26. Hi I am newish to blogging too and definitely new to your blog. Instant follower though! Love your stuff. I just read your spa stories and got anxiety over your experience. I am not a spa person anyway but that would put anyone off. Where in Canada are you from? Not a very strong accent eh? Ali

    ReplyDelete
  27. ps. I am Canadian and I embrace my "eh".

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Ali B - Hi Ali!! Welcome to the blog and thanks for stopping in and commenting. It validates me more than it probably should. ;-)

I am in Ontario, near Toronto. Are you from 'round these parts as well?

I say EH so much in normal life... it's just so much faster than "you know what I mean, right"... eh?

  29. So... after seeing your vlog meme, I thought I totally had to do it. Aaaand, 11 days later I finally got around to doing it! Yay!
